shells

There are some kids that come into my office and won't stop talking...then there are those that come in and it is like trying to crack a walnut with your bare hands. There are some kids that even at the age of five have seen more than one person should see in a lifetime. The horror...the nightmare...their life. It is amazing to me that they function at all...

Today...one of those kids came into my office and there was a crack in her shell. For the first time I could see beyond her eyes and into a small piece of her soul. A very small piece...but a piece non the less.

It is small victories like this that we social workers live for everyday!

Dear Blog, Where are you?

When I try to find you, I can't. I have taken a different route to your home each time and I can never remember how to get there. I have gone to my sister's blog to find you many times and I have also come to you via my friend Kaylen's blog but I have never figured out exactly how to get straight to you. I will figure it out one of these days!

Until then,
Robin

ps. I don't really like your clothes. I may go shopping to get you a new outfit.

our cat died...

Today I received an email from Aneesa's teacher...it read...

Aneesa was sad during music. She said that her cat died, is this true?
Thank you

I about fell out of my seat laughing! I had to respond with...

I am dying laughing! We have never even owned a cat! Lately she has liked to pretend that she is a cat! Maybe the split personality has died! Hahaha! J Hopefully she won’t be too sad all day! I will talk with her this afternoon about making up stories like that and making sure that people know it is pretend.

Thanks for sharing,
Robin

She responded...

That's what I thought, this morning she was happy and then after 2 hours, she was sad.
Have a nice weekend:)

Just when you think that the conversation is over...I receive yet another...

what about a dog? (she changes her story!)

Never tell me that my child lacks an imagination!

puma

Yesterday I am giving a lesson to a class of 5th graders. One child points out that the box that I have...attempted to cover...with paper is a Puma box and coincidentally I am wearing Pumas! What a great observation!

First thing this morning that same child pops her head into my office..."Look Ms. Housel, Puma!" She had wore her Puma shirt and informed me that she had Puma shorts but it was too cold to wear them!

It amazes me how much kids strive for that connection...in any way they can get it! Makes my heart smile!

Alpha

Realizing that it is the everyday moments that I don't want to forget. The little things that are said or done that I want to share with someone and lucky you are that someone!
